When use a New Toshiba Laptop Batteries, to begin with, you should know that must be broken down first before you start using laptop computer. They need of the first charge of 12-14 hours and this should be an adapter AC more than any other charger, such as car adapter. No matter what each character charge indicator says, wait a full-time before exclusion. It is recommended that you fully charge and discharge your new battery 2-4 times in order to reach their maximum capacity.

How to take care your Toshiba laptop battery?

When using a laptop as a desktop replacement the battery should not be left in for long periods of time. The laptop will over time discharge the laptop battery pack. Remove the battery, making sure that it is charged to 50% and store it in a dry, warm place. Ensure that it is wrapped protectively and nothing will be dropped on it.

The battery should be re-installed every 3-4 weeks and allowed to fully discharge. Leaving a battery in storage for longer than this without using could cause the battery to fully discharge as the circuitry of the Dell battery itself consumes power.

Leaving Toshiba laptop battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the battery.

Generally, these laptops drop their independence mainly due to several reasons: First, use the second of normal aging of chemical materials. Therefore, regardless of what advice to take the battery will wear as time passes. In whole life of laptop battery normally used to 2-3 years.

Just some normal care can help to achieve absolute positive change in how long the battery will last as well. Here, let me present some useful suggestions for extending the battery life of laptop Toshiba to ensure that you can take the most benefit from it.

In addition, there is no way to use or store the battery in harsh conditions, including leave a laptop in his car when it is either freezing or hot summer time. The best Temp to keep the battery is about 15 Celsius. If the battery is not used for a long time, it is proposed to be removed from the machine and placed in a cool, dry and clean place.

Another idea is to realize it was that the autonomy of the battery cut off a little with each charging cycle. Just what is shocking, but when a person is associated with previous paragraph, which may include unintended consequences: When a user leaves the device battery still holds power adapter associated with the contact Toshiba laptop battery in your computer constantly sends the cycle of charge/discharge.

Toshiba Battery, remaining to be used inside the laptop Toshiba laptop battery discharges a little faster than usual because of the heat, detected by operation of the laptop. Once that levels of loading decreases less than certain amount use the adapter to recharge theBattery up. As the battery ages this cycle is becoming shorter what still accelerates the degradation of its autonomy.

Multimeter

1. Shut down the Lenovo laptop.
2. Disconnect the battery from the Lenovo laptop.
3. Measure the voltage between battery terminals 1 and 7 by connecting the multimeter's positive lead to terminal 1 and the negative lead to terminal 7. If the battery shows a voltage of less than 11 volts, charge the battery. If the voltage is still less than 11 volts after charging, the battery should be replaced.
4. Measure the resistance between battery terminals 5 and 7 using the multimeter. Connect the multimeter's positive lead to terminal 5 and the negative lead to terminal 7. If the resistance is not between 4 and 30 kilo ohms, the battery should be replaced. If the resistance is correct and the battery still does not charge, replace the system board.

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen on your Gateway laptop is an expensive and important component of this computer. Needless to say, it can be devastating if this screen becomes cracked or damaged. But if you don´t have the money to take your Gateway to a service technician, you can actually remove and replace it yourself, and you don´t need to be an electronics expert to do it.

Things You'll Need

Small flat-head screwdriver
Phillips screwdriver

Instructions

1. Turn your Gateway laptop off and remove the AC power cable. Then slide the battery latch on the bottom of your computer to the unlock position and slide the battery out of its bay.
2. Insert the tip of your small flat-head screwdriver just underneath the plastic hinge covers located on either corner of your laptop, just underneath the screen. Gently pry up to pop them off.
3. Use the tip of your small flat-head screwdriver to pop the rubber screw covers off the top of each of the screws located on the top and bottom of the screen bezel (plastic frame around the LCD screen). Then use your Phillips screwdriver to remove all of the screws on the bezel.
4. Use your fingers to separate the bezel from the metal screen mounting bracket by gently prying the bezel up from the corners of the screen. Once it's completely removed, set the bezel aside.
5. Locate the green inverter board just under the LCD screen and unplug the backlight cable that connects at the right side of the inverter board.
6. Remove all screws from the sides of the metal screen mounting bracket (metal housing the screen fits into) and the hinges on the bottom corners of the screen.
7. Grip the cracked LCD screen itself by the corners and gently pull it toward you about three inches to expose the back of the screen. Be careful because the screen is still connected to the computer via a ribbon cable. Use your fingers to unplug this ribbon cable where it attaches in the middle of the back of the LCD screen.
8. Slide the cracked LCD screen from the metal housing brackets and set it aside. Replace it with a new screen (available from your Gateway retailer or online) and reassemble your laptop in the reverse order you took it apart.

How to Care Your Gateway W32066LD Laptop Battery?

A new Gateway Laptop Battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to the devices manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the digital camcorder Gateway W32066LD battery may require three to four charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity. New Laptop Battery needs to be fully charged and discharged (cycled) a few times before it can condition to full capacity. Rechargeable batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused. Always store a Laptop Battery pack in a fully charged staged for storage. When charging the Gateway W32066LD battery for the first time the device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Remove the camcorder batteries from the device, reinsert it and repeat the charging procedure

It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the Gateway W32066LD battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run the device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in the user's manual. If the battery will not be in use for a month or longer, it is recommended that Gateway W32066LD battery be removed from the device and stored in a cool, dry, clean place.

Invest in a good charger for your camcorder. Ni-MH batteries should not be charged in a NiCad charger, unless the charger is specifically made for both chemistries. There are cheap chargers and there are expensive chargers. Make sure the charger you get has good reviews and is well made. Chargers with micro-controller chips are usually the best choice of your digital camcorder.

Be sure to store your Laptop Battery properly. Do not leave your batteries in a hot car, or in humid conditions. The best storage conditions are a cool, dry place. The refrigerator is fine if you stick in a packet of silica gel with your Gateway W32066LD battery in a sealed bag to keep them dry. It is a good idea to charge your NiCad or Ni-MH batteries fully before use if they have been in storage.

How Can I Maximize the performance of My Gateway Laptop Battery?

There are several steps you can take to help you get maximum performance from your Laptop Batteries:

Prevent the Memory Effect - Keep the Laptop Battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-ion batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.

Keep the Laptop Battery Clean - It's a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.

Exercise the Battery - Do not leave the battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If an Laptop Battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above.

Battery Storage - If you don't plan on using the Laptop Battery for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. NiCad, Ni-MH and Li-ion batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to recharge the batteries before use.

If your laptop battery is failing to retaining a charge or dying out quickly, you may be able to reset it. Resetting your laptop battery depends on the type of battery you have. You'll need to look at the battery and see if there is a reset button, in which case the process is fairly straightforward. If you do not have a reset button, don't fret; there are still methods to reset the battery. If after trying these methods your battery is still not functioning properly, you may need to buy a replacement.

If Your Battery Has a Reset Button

1. While using your laptop, allow the battery to run down completely. Save your work to the hard drive or a memory stick so that it doesn't get lost once the computer dies.
2. Plug in your laptop and allow it to charge for approximately one hour without turning on the computer.
3. Hold down the Power button on the computer and the reset button on the battery simultaneously. The reset button can be held down with the tip of a pen or a straightened paper clip. Lights will go on and then off.
4. Release the buttons and turn on your computer.
5. Allow the battery to charge completely.

If Your Battery Doesn't Have a Reset Button

6. Use the computer and let the battery run down completely.
7. Plug in the computer and let the battery fully recharge without turning on the computer.
8. If Steps 1 and 2 do not work, you can download power-manager software designed for resetting a laptop battery. It's important to follow the instructions exactly, as the software is meant to be used by professionals.

Rechargeable laptop batteries tend to decrease in performance life over time and usage. Generally, a reduction in battery life can be noticed after 18 to 24 months. Once the battery life can no longer meet your portable needs, then it would be time to purchase a new battery. Replacement laptop batteries can be widely found online (see References below); make sure that the battery is compatible with the make and model of your notebook computer.

Instructions

1. Completely shut down the laptop and disconnect any cables that are plugged in.
2. Shut the monitor closed and flip the computer over so that the underside is facing you.
3. Press and move your thumb towards the direction arrow labeled on the battery safety release latch.
4. Remove the battery in an upward motion. Repeat this motion in the opposite direction when inserting the new battery.
5. Plug in the AC adapter cable to the notebook for about 8 to 12 hours to ensure a full battery

Toshiba has come a long way when it comes to the battery life in their laptops, but that does not make them immune to the occasional hiccup. Poor charging practices can cause issues with battery life, and power-sucking settings can deplete a charged battery, especially an older one, at a surprising rate. For many Toshiba laptops, even temperature can affect whether and how your battery charges and discharges.

Charging New Batteries

If your laptop is brand new, you have an opportunity to maximize your battery's health from the get-go. CNET authors Asher Moses and Brian Nadel state that long-term battery vitality can be ensured if "when first using your notebook on battery power, [you] let the battery completely drain before you recharge it. Don't recharge when the battery is only half drained. Do that for at least the first two sessions." If you continue to do this every time you use your laptop battery, you will extend the length of time your laptop can run on battery power.

Power Settings

One of the main reasons battery life is so short on many laptops is because of the power settings. You can access the power settings on a Toshiba either by right-clicking the battery tray icon in the lower-right corner of your screen and click "Power Options", or by going to Control Panel > Power Options. Here, you can select the settings your computer will use when it is running on battery power, adjust when the display turns off, choose when the computer will go to sleep, and decide how bright your display is. The default "Power Saver" settings adjust the display brightness to about 40%, turn off the display after 3 minutes of inactivity and put the computer to sleep after 15 minutes. Think about which settings make the most sense for you, and adjust your computer accordingly to save power.

Temperature

Extreme temperatures can negatively affect your laptop's battery. According to Moses and Nadel, you should not expose your battery to extreme heat or cold. Heat causes batteries to lose their charge very quickly and cold batteries don't perform as well. In addition, some Toshiba laptop batteries can detect when they have heated up too much, and will not charge even when the AC power is plugged in. The computer will display "AC power plugged in; battery not charging," in this case. If this happens, you can charge the battery by shutting down your computer and letting the battery charge while the computer is off.

Age

Laptop batteries generally last for 2 to 3 years. If your battery is not holding a charge and it is older than 3 years, consider purchasing a new battery. Remember to fully deplete and fully charge the new battery the first few times you use it.

Still Not Charging

If you have considered all of these possible battery problems and find that they are not the reason for the problem, try taking the battery out and gently cleaning the contacts on the battery and in the laptop's battery compartment with a dry, lint-free cloth. If there is no improvement, you may need to look into updating the computer's BIOS or using the recovery CD that came with the laptop to clear any internal problems that may be affecting your battery.

The typical laptop battery lasts approximately two years depending on usage. During that time, it slowly loses its effectiveness until it no longer holds a charge. There are other things that affect your battery's ability to charge, depending on the type you have. For example, Ni-Cd (Nickel-Cadmium) batteries need to be fully discharged before recharging to prevent loss of power. Li-ion (Lithium Ion) shouldn't be "overcharged" by leaving the battery charging after it has fully charged. Even if the battery is new, it will lose effectiveness if not properly cared for.

Instructions

General Troubleshooting

1. Check the power connector to see if it fits snugly. Pull it out and push it back in.
2. Try a different outlet. If the outlet has electrical problems it may prevent a good charge.
3. Use an alternate power cord, if available. Borrow one from a friend or use a compatible one from a radio or other laptop.
4. Try a different battery. If the other battery works, send the new one back for replacement.
5. Check the connection where the power adapter attaches to the laptop. If it is loose, there may not be enough power flowing in to charge the battery. Replace the motherboard or repair the DC jack.
6. Uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" from device manager. The device manager is found by right-clicking "My Computer." (Just "Computer" in Vista or Windows 7). Restart the computer to reinstall the battery device drivers. Alternatively, download and install more compatible drivers from the manufacturer.
7. Use HP Battery Check for HP laptops to test the status of the battery (see Resources).

Apple Specific

8. Turn on the laptop and put it to sleep if it's a PowerBook. Some earlier models need to be turned on to charge.
9. Download and install an update for Mac OS X by going to the "Software Update" preference pane. You need Mac OS 10.2.4 or later, and you can also get it from Apple Software Downloads (see Resources).
10. Reset the power management unit as directed by Apple. This button is accessed by removing the case: Do this only as a last resort.
11. Turn the power cord so the black nub is turned horizontally if you have the PowerBook G4. If you have it turned vertically, it will touch the lid and stop the cord from going all the way in.

Tips & Warnings

If the DC internal connection is loose, do not wiggle it excessively or it may spark and start a fire.
