The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen on your Gateway laptop is an expensive and important component of this computer. Needless to say, it can be devastating if this screen becomes cracked or damaged. But if you don´t have the money to take your Gateway to a service technician, you can actually remove and replace it yourself, and you don´t need to be an electronics expert to do it.

Instructions
1. Turn your Gateway laptop off and remove the AC power cable. Then slide the battery latch on the bottom of your computer to the unlock position and slide the battery out of its bay.
2. Insert the tip of your small flat-head screwdriver just underneath the plastic hinge covers located on either corner of your laptop, just underneath the screen. Gently pry up to pop them off.
3. Use the tip of your small flat-head screwdriver to pop the rubber screw covers off the top of each of the screws located on the top and bottom of the screen bezel (plastic frame around the LCD screen). Then use your Phillips screwdriver to remove all of the screws on the bezel.
4. Use your fingers to separate the bezel from the metal screen mounting bracket by gently prying the bezel up from the corners of the screen. Once it's completely removed, set the bezel aside.
5. Locate the green inverter board just under the LCD screen and unplug the backlight cable that connects at the right side of the inverter board.
6. Remove all screws from the sides of the metal screen mounting bracket (metal housing the screen fits into) and the hinges on the bottom corners of the screen.
7. Grip the cracked LCD screen itself by the corners and gently pull it toward you about three inches to expose the back of the screen. Be careful because the screen is still connected to the computer via a ribbon cable. Use your fingers to unplug this ribbon cable where it attaches in the middle of the back of the LCD screen.
8. Slide the cracked LCD screen from the metal housing brackets and set it aside. Replace it with a new screen (available from your Gateway retailer or online) and reassemble your laptop in the reverse order you took it apart.
