Although Lenovo acquired IBM's very successful personal computing business in 2005, the quality of the personal computing products has not decreased under the new ownership. Despite Lenovo's reputation for producing high-quality laptops and desktops, hardware problems and failures do occur even with replacement parts. However, using guidance provided by Lenovo, it is possible to diagnose many hardware problems without contacting Lenovo customer support.

Things You'll Need

Lenovo replacement battery
Multimeter

1. Shut down the Lenovo laptop.
2. Disconnect the battery from the Lenovo laptop.
3. Measure the voltage between battery terminals 1 and 7 by connecting the multimeter's positive lead to terminal 1 and the negative lead to terminal 7. If the battery shows a voltage of less than 11 volts, charge the battery. If the voltage is still less than 11 volts after charging, the battery should be replaced.
4. Measure the resistance between battery terminals 5 and 7 using the multimeter. Connect the multimeter's positive lead to terminal 5 and the negative lead to terminal 7. If the resistance is not between 4 and 30 kilo ohms, the battery should be replaced. If the resistance is correct and the battery still does not charge, replace the system board.
